Tenebrae

7:00pm – 9:00pm
The ceremony of Tenebrae – meaning “darkness” – is one of the Church’s treasures from the liturgy of Holy Week. Traditionally celebrated in the evening as the sun goes down on the eve of each day of the Triduum, after each psalm is chanted a candle is extinguished until the church is left in darkness at the end. Music will include Gregorian chant and polyphony by the Renaissance composer T.L. de Victoria. We keep watch with Our Lord as he begins His Passion for our salvation in the Garden of Olives.

Tenebrae for the Triduum will be offered at 7 p.m. on Holy Wednesday, Holy Thursday and Good Friday.

6:30pm – 8:00pm
Greater Bridgeport’s Young Adult Bible Study is back on Tuesday evenings for the Lenten and Easter liturgical seasons!

Through a combination of private home study and group discussion, we will examine the Old Testament Book of Ezekiel and its connection to two New Testament books, that of Hebrews and the Apocalypse, and the revelation given to St. John on the Island of Patmos.

Required materials for this study include:

  • The Bible (see USCCB approved translations)

  • The Catechism of the Catholic Church (accessible online)

  • Come and See: Ezekiel, Hebrews, and Revelation (ISBN 10: 1931018650 / ISBN 13: 9781931018654) by Fr. Andreas Hoeck and Laurie Watson Manhardt.

    • New digital or print study guides may be purchased directly from the St. Paul Center for $24.95. Copies in good condition are available for less money from used book sellers on AbeBooks and eBay.

Our study will be offered for fifteen weeks from Shrove Tuesday, March 4, 2025, through June 10, 2025, from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM. We will meet in the Munro Room of the Faith Center at St. Pius X Parish, 834 Brookside Dr, Fairfield, CT 06824.
